Nam’s High School Life

After eating her breakfast, Nam immediately grabbed her bag, and then bade goodbye to her mom. It’s Monday, and she was so excited for school. When she reached there, her best friend Tiffany spotted her and called her excitedly.

            “Nam!” shouted Tiffany as she was waving her hand to catch Nam’s attention. She ran so fast to her bessy.

            “Oh! Hi Pan. Such an early bird huh! Well, I’m glad you’re already here. Where’s Narciso?”

            “He’s not yet around. I guess he will be late again. By the way, Mr. Cute is already here.” Tiffany was giggling while telling Nam the information. She was actually referring to Dave, Nam’s secret crush.

             “Really? Where is he now? Oh my gosh! I have to fix myself first.” She got her powder in her bag, and then applied a little of it in her face. “Bessy, do I look good now?”

            “Yes bessy! You’re so pretty”, complimented Tiffany.

            “Okay. Let’s go! I am so excited to see him”, Nam said giggling.

            The two then proceeded to their classroom, and there they saw Dave. Nam first spotted him. She could really feel the beating of her heart every time she saw her cute, handsome crush who always inspired her without his knowing. She was always motivated to go to school, not just because they were classmates, but also because Dave was sitting next to her. Though sometimes she felt uncomfortable sitting beside him, she was able to manage that feeling and acted normally. She didn’t want that somebody will know or notice the feelings she has for Dave. Nam was not a flirt kind of a girl. In fact, the boys were the ones flirting at her. She was beautiful and intelligent, the reason why she has many suitors. She was not a player, yet she already gained eleven exes even at her young age. She hasn’t experienced loving seriously.

            Before the bell rang, Narciso arrived, and when Tiffany and Nam saw him, they ran immediately to hug him. They really missed him so much.

            “Narciso! I miss you bessy. How are you? “Nam hugged Narciso tightly as if they hadn’t seen each other for years. Tiffany did the same.

            “Chill guys! I miss you too. Okay, that’s enough. I can’t breathe anymore”, Narciso complained while he was trying to get out of her friends’ hugs. The two then freed him. “So, what’s up?”

            “Bessy, you know, I’m so happy today”, Nam said proudly, smiling wide. She couldn’t stop herself from giggling.

            “Here you are again! You always say that every time you see him”, exclaimed Tiffany. She really knew her best friend. She believed that Nam was so attracted with Dave’s physical appearance.

            After the flag ceremony, all students went to their respective classrooms. Nam’s first class was Physics with Mrs. Bess. She loved this class so much knowing that Dave was her seatmate.

            “Okay class, find a pair. We will be having an exercise. I will be giving extra points for the first pair who can answer the problem written on the board.” After giving the instruction, Mrs. Bee went outside and left her students.

            “Can you be my pair Nam?” asked Dave. His eyes were so beautiful that no one could refuse his offer or favor every time he asked for it. For Nam, he was an angel, her prince charming. But only her two bessy knew about it.

            “Uhm… Yes! So, let’s start?” Nam confirmed. She was so happy that Dave asked her to be his pair. She couldn’t believe it. They would be working together. She felt so lucky, and she giggled. She tried to control herself, and fortunately, she did it. Dave didn’t recognize her giggling. Nam enjoyed so much having Dave as her pair. She was so motivated to answer the activity, and so they were the first pair who answered the problem correctly.

            “Very good Nam, Dave .The two of you will receive 15 points each, and you are exempted in our quiz this coming Thursday.”

            “Yes! Good job Nam. You’re the best! I’m so lucky to have you as my pair”, Dave said it with a normal voice, enough that Shiela heard it. She has a crush on Dave. Hearing what Dave said, she felt insecure with Nam. She easily got jealous every time Dave appreciated other girls. She was so selfish when it comes to her crush. Now that she heard Dave praising Nam, she got mad, and she couldn’t stop herself hating Nam. She now hated her as she hated the other girls.

            Recess time already, Nam, together with her two bessy, went to the canteen to buy some snacks.

            “Hi Nam! I bought snacks for you”, Rock said while offering Nam a sandwich and a drink. Rock was Nam’s boyfriend. He loved Nam so much, but unfortunately, Nam didn’t feel the same. She only answered him because she just liked to. Actually, he was not the only guy. There were five of them. Nam was influenced by some of her classmates who had many boyfriends. Narciso and Tiffany already advised her to stop her crazy hobby of answering guys without actually loving them. The two wanted her to stick to only one guy. But Nam continued her craziness.

            “Oh! You shouldn’t buy these. I appreciated the effort but…sorry. I just don’t feel eating sandwich and drinking juice for now. I’m not totally hungry, and I feel eating tempora outside.” Nam rejected Rock’s offer. But he insisted.

            “Just keep these. I’ll buy you tempora outside”, Rock said.

            “Just get it Nam. If you don’t like the food and drink, we’re willing to eat and drink them”, Narciso jokingly said as he grabbed Tiffany’s left arm.

            “It’s all yours Narciso. I’ll buy my own”, Tiffany said in an angry manner. She got irritated with Narciso .

            “Che! KJ!” Narciso said as he pushed Tiffany back. They were like cats and dogs sometimes and that’s normal to them. They were already used with each others’ attitudes.

            “No Rock. Thanks. Just take your snacks. We will be leaving you here for a while. We’ll just buy tempora outside. Is it okay?” Nam wanted Rock to agree with her so that she could go outside already. Though Rock was disappointed, he still answered Nam nicely and said, “Okay Nam. I’ll wait you here. Take care”.

            After the two had eaten temopra, thay went back inside the campus and saw Rock standing at the same place where they left him.

            “You’re so crazy bess. I know you don’t love him as well as your other boyfriends. Why can’t you tell him the truth? Have pity on him. He loves you, and you don’t even feel the same. He’s just like loving an imaginary person who can’t love him back. Are you not afraid of karma?” Narciso convinced Nam to tell the truth to Rock. He wanted her to split with Rock since she doesn’t love him.

            “Yes bessy. Tell him you don’t love him so that he can find the right girl for him. The girl who can love her back”, Tiffany said as she put her hands on Nam’s shoulders. “As early as now, stop this craziness or yours”, she added.

            “You know guys, I did that already, but he insisted. I don’t know what to do about him as well as my other boyfriends. I even told him he’s not the only guy but he told me he doesn’t care”, Nam explained. They continued walking, and before they could reached Rock, Dave suddenly arrived.

            “Hi Nam! Take this. This is for you.” Dave bought Nam a sandwich with peanut butter. He gave her this because he was so glad that he was exempted for their upcoming quiz because of Nam.

            “Oh! Thanks Dave.” Nam was surprised with what her crush did. She wanted to shout and jumped because for the first time, Dave gave her a snack. She couldn’t believe it. She controlled her emotions and stayed calmed. When Dave was gone, she jumped and jumped, and then pushed Tiffany and Narciso forcedly. She couldn’t stop herself from giggling. She blushed on what Dave did. Rock saw everything. He was hurt. He got jealous. Nam rejected his offer but accepted Dave’s. He felt so sad and got upset but he kept it in himself. He loved Nam so much, and he’s willing to do everything for her. He’s willing to accept the pain and love Nam even more. He didn’t give up that easily.

            When Nam realized that Rock saw her giggling with what Dave did, her emotions suddenly transfigured. She went nearer to Rock and let her two bessy to go ahead. She could really see upset Rock was.

            “Thanks for waiting. Uhm… maybe you saw me accepting Dave’s offer, well, actually I only accepted it because I was surprised with he did. I find it unusual, and honestly that was the first time he gave me a snack. I don’t mean to offend you. I’m so sorry.” Nam tried to make things clear to cheer Rock up.

            “No, it’s okay Nam. I understand. You’re just friends right?”, Rock asked Nam, expecting that she would answer him a yes.

            “Ye-yes”, she replied honestly. But rock sensed that she has a crush on Dave and this made him feel sad.

            It’s lunch time already, Nam bade goodbye to her friends and then went home.

            “Such a flirt!” Shiela angrily said.

            “Who?” asked Myrish.

            “Nam!” she replied while rolling her eyes.

            “That bitch! You know, I heard rumors that Dominic courted her, and she answered him. I’m just hoping that’s not true. Dominic is just mine. I’m her girlfriend, and as long as he’s mine, no one could ever touch him. Yes, I treated Nam as a friend, but I can’t forgive her if she’s going to betray me. I’m going to make her life a living hell if ever she’ll do it”, Myrish said emotionally.

            “I guess she has so many boyfriends.  I just don’t know what is on her mind that she keeps on collecting boys here in our campus. I don’t want that someday, Dave will also fall for her. I will not allow that thing to happen.  Why can’t Dave notice me? I’m beautiful.” Shiela turned to be so emotional. Myrish comforted her and gave her a chocolate, hoping that it would make her feel better.

            When Nam entered the room, she saw Rock sitting on her seat, waiting for her. They were not classmates but Rock usually made ways just to spend some time with her.

            “Hi Nam! Have you taken your lunch already?” , Rock asked.

            “Yes. How about you?”, she asked as if she cared for him even if not.

            “Good to hear that. I’m done too.”

Just then, Dave entered the room. Nam immediately spotted him and stayed away from Rock. She went outside without saying a word to Rock. Rock then followed her. “Where are you going?”

“Uhm… I’m looking for Tiffany and Narciso. We have an assignment to make. Maybe I’ll go find them. You may also go to your room.” Nam convinced him to walk away so that she could get inside the room and make conversation with Dave.

“I’ll help you find them.”

“No, it’s okay. Just go to your room now. Anyway, it’s almost 1:00, and you shouldn’t be late in your Filipino class. I can’t entertain you for now because I’ll be busy. I have to make my assignment before it’s time.”

“Okay, Nam. Let’s see each other after the class. I’ll wait at the gate.”

“Hmmm… hopefully I will remember it. Okay, bye.” Nam left Rock and so he went to his room. He was again sad for the short talk he had with Nam.

Now that Rock was already in his room, Nam directly went inside and looked for Dave. When she was about to go closer to him, Shiela then sat beside Dave. When she saw them talking, she turned her back and went directly to her seat. Nam knew that Shiela has also a crush on Dave. Everyone knew about it, including Dave. Nam has no intention on flirting Dave. She even kept her feelings for him just to avoid trouble.

Graduation was fast approaching. Nam and his friends were so excited but at the same time sad. They were unsure if they would be enrolling at the same school in college. They decided to enjoy the remaining days of their high school life. During weekends, they spent time together in the beach. They enjoyed swimming and eating as well. Since Nam didn’t want to have boyfriend in college, she decided to end up her connection with all of her boyfriends.  She avoided them all, and enjoyed herself being single.

On the day of their graduation, Nam was announced as the Salutatorian of their class. She felt so sad for she was so disappointed that she was not announced as that class Valedictorian. But despite of this, she’s still able to smile and enjoy the rest of the day with her classmates.
